The final day of school for students will now be Wednesday, May 20. Students will continue to participate in e-learning activities every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and they must continue adhering to this schedule as closely as possible through this date. Class participation at this time is vital to their progress in their current classes and will set them up for success next school year. You and your child may contact their teachers to discuss their progress through Friday, May 29. We ask that students have all Dr. Amanda Alaniz Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Stephens Assistant Superintendent assignments turned in by this date. Mr. Robert Wilson Director of Achievement & Innovative Student Additionally, we have made the following provisions for our elementary students: Programs While learning must continue to take place, our students will not see a negative impact on their quarter 4 grades. This sudden change in learning has been a challenge for us all, and our educators have been implementing lessons that continue to academically challenge our students; however, we will hold our students harmless during this unprecedented situation. Communication with your child's teachers will be vital to your child s success. If your child is struggling academically in any subject, please reach out to your child's teachers so they can provide the necessary support. Teachers will assign a summative assignment instead of end-of-term assessments for each class. Your child's teacher will post the details of this assignment as the school year progresses. No new content or assignments will be presented after May 20. In lieu of a traditional report card, teachers will be providing feedback in an alternate format at the end of the school year. Please watch for communication from your child s principal for more information. Thank you for your patience as we work together to navigate these difficult times. We see the extra effort you are putting into your child's education and appreciate all your are doing to ensure your child is on track for next school year. Sincerely, Dr. Amanda Alaniz Superintendent of Portage Township Schools
