SAM Sam Houston Middle School 6th Grade Newsletter HOUSTON August 2019 MIDDLE SCHOOL Welcome Back Texans! Campus Announcements: We are so excited for this new year of learning and academic growth! As we get this first six weeks underway, we want to remind parents and students of some important information Outerwear: Students are not allowed to wear hoodies. They may wear a solid colored jacket for their appropriate grade level, however the jacket can not have a hood. Students will be instructed to remove outerwear that is in violation of the dress code as they enter the building. ID Badges: Students are required to wear ID badges at all times while in the building. If students do not have their badge for any reason, they will be required to get a replacement badge. Replacement badges are $3 each Please make sure your student has their badge daily. There is no parking in the south parking lot by the gym. In the best interest of our students and as a safety precaution, this parking lot will be closed as it is reserved for our buses. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to building a community of learning for all! Parent's Corner: name is Genesis Salazan and I will be working with parents, sludents, and the PARENTS my community as your parent liaison. I am diverse backgrounds will make a positive impact on inferactions with the faculty, teachers, confident that my invokvement with families of CORNER facton in and our students. The Little Prince Department News World Cultures & Dual Language Social Studies SQRAL STUZNES Unit 1 introduces students to the tools and concepts of geography and demonstrates how those tools and concepts can help us learn about the world around us. Students will begin with basic information including location of continents and oceans, using cardinal directions, and using latitude and longitude to identify locations of major countries. Students will then focus on using the five themes of geography to analyze their own environment as well as different locations around the world. Finally, students will learn how various
