March 2025 Issue 11 Physical Education Happenings Endeavour Elementary-Mr. Norman and Mrs. Mukai Issue of Endeavour's P.E. Happenings P.E. Activities... We have recently finished The Kids Heart Challenge. In PE we worked with sin- gle ropes and various chal- lenges and Chinese ropes too. During the fundraiser we have several students who earned the "PE teacher for the day or for their class." The student who collected the most this year was Ella Wiegand, $443.17, and she will be PE teacher for a day!!! Our school collected over $2400 in support of The American Heart Associa- tion. Overhand Throw In PE we spend a lot of time on overhand throwing skills. Here are some tips for you to work on at home! Focus on Proper Grip and Stance: Encourage your child to hold the ball with their fin- gers spread wide across the seams (for a baseball or simi- lar ball) or with a comfortable grip for whatever ball they're using. Make sure they stand with their feet shoulder-width apart, with their non-throwing side facing their target, and knees slightly bent for bal- ance. Emphasize the Wind-up and Follow-through: Teach your child the importance of a smooth wind-up, where they bring the ball back behind their body (with their throw- ing elbow at shoulder height) before releasing. The follow- through is just as important- make sure they finish with their throwing arm fully extended and their body rotating, so they don't overstrain muscles. Practice with Targets: To improve accuracy, set up tar- gets such as cones, buckets, or a spot on a fence to aim for. Encourage your child to focus on hitting the target with each throw. Start with short distanc- es and gradually increase the challenge as they get more comfortable. Positive reinforce- ment when they hit the mark can motivate them to improve! REMEMBER, always step to- wards the target with your op- posite foot! II XA A A A Windup Early to late Acceleration Deceleration Follow through cocking phase Quotes of the issue Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. Abraham Lincoln "Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your char- acter is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." Reminder, Proper P.E. shoes We are concerned about your child's safety and for that reason; we ask that they wear athletic or running type shoes. Shoes with heals, boots or sandals (such as crocs) make it difficult for children to participate safely. We strongly encourage students to wear socks with their shoes and please send your child to school with a water bottle! John Wooden
