Student Council, JAG, BETA members gives nursing home residents a day to remember BY: AGUSTINA BUSTOS Gata Data Reporter The Student Council has taken a trip to the nursing home and put a smile on the elders' faces. Members of the JAG and Beta club also attended this field trip and experienced this moment with them. They all came together and surprised the nursing home with easter baskets. It is a requirement for the student council to do a community service project so their sponsor, Mrs. Jannet Fuentes, took her students to the nursing home since some members that are living there often don't have families to visit them for the holidays. Fuentes really enjoyed seeing her students have a big realization that everyone gets to that age and how people usually take the smallest things for granted. Fuentes states, "Seeing it and being with the people in the nursing home was kind of a catharsis." Student Council is all about being involved and doing anything they can' to help build a better community for our society. This simple action of visiting these kind strangers had made their day better which is such a beautiful thing to see and experience. It was mentioned that a few hours of their day made such a positive impact on the elderly's attitudes and behavior. Fuentes then states, "Building. relationships and that impact you have on people's lives could start a snowball effect." She strongly believes that having empathy and awareness of what's going on around us is what makes someone a good leader and that's what this trip was for. It was meant to help her students gain experience which she believes will lead them to becoming better leaders in the real world. Student Council is a great club for anyone who wants to participate and be more involved in helping our community with love and kindness. St. Amant Theater's Rendition of Steel Magnolias BY: BROXTON CRAWFORD Gata Data Reporter The St. Amant Theater Club is getting prepared for their rendition of the quintessential southern female plav Steel Magnolias. Plav Director Heidi Frederic adds that there's a line in the plav that describes what Steel Magnolias genre really is. She adds. "There's a a line in the plav that Dolly Parton savs. She savs. 'laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.' And so that's how I would describe the genre of this play." Mrs. Frederic states that evervone is very excited for this plav. She explains. "I think it's gonna be amazing. Our students are ready. They've worked really hard and we are super excited. It's gonna be one not to miss." The main reason Theater Club decided to do Steel Magnolias is because it's a real story set in Louisiana and the story focuses on many different characters. So it's just really cool. and it's really close to home. and it's something that we could all experience in our lives." The cast is verv close and all have a maior role in the Carlvle adds. "It just felt natural. It felt easy. It felt like we were having fun. Like obviously we're acting and we know our lines and things like that. but below the surface. we were just a good time. having and I think that's what makes it so fun." Steel Magnolias does not just focus on one on one character explores other points of view for the all I make sense for y that story. Carlvle explains. "even though the story centers around a couple of main people. there really is is no main character or lead role. April 2024 Spirit at STA BY: EVIE FORSYTH, XYAN DOBARD Gata Data Reporter St. Amant's school spirit is something to be prideful about and should be embraced by the student body. Various ideas and feedback were given to the Gata Data about what they feel should be done to of the school spirit Amant in the years. I love Many to go to the games and s support their team by cheering them on, bringing flashy signs, and starting loud chants. But there has been room for improvement in certain aspects of the overall gameday experience. For example, Senior Ja'kya Thomas stated that her favorite school events to attend are football games, but feels that rather than the personnel picking members, there should be a sign-up process that considers what the student's history is Stude regarding school spirit. Across the board, many other students feel that school spirit would be drastically improved if they were given freedom and not have the hempportunity to st may ional and continuing activities from the past. Two freshmen, Coen Robert and Kane Templet, want to have expressive themes and for Pi Pit Crew to have the ability to to force students to stand a yell at all games; the two students also want more school activities and pep rallies to continue school spirit throughout the year rather than just a few football games. Although the lack of pep rallies is a reason for poor school Spirit at St. Amant High School, the school's large population is to blame. But with Prairieville being built, pep rallies should be a new way to express our spirit in and out of school, says Head of Gator Rally Mrs. Joleigh Hartman. Coach Jo also said she a bigger and hopes to spark Pit Crew of up to 60 People with the ability to sign up. A A larger pit crew will create groups of students to participate in multiple sports and activities at once. Although students think lack of spirit is from many reasons to gain it back, it starts with the students St. Amant girls track team break a school record Last week at the St.Amat Pit Stop track meet, the girls distance 4 x 800 relav team broke the school record with a time of 10:53.59. These girls will be traveling to Dutchtown on Thursday April. 18 to compete in the district track meet. The Gata Data wishes these girls and the St.Amant Track and field team good luck. Go Gators!
