AMANT, LA 70774 FEBRUARY 2024 STA Winter Guard prepares to get through this season with flying colors BY: NEVAEH HANCOCK Gata Data Reporter The season starts with a bang for the Winter Guards' varsity team as their first competition at Lakeshore High School ended up taking first place. When asked how she felt about the competition, Junior Madelyn Long said, "I think we had a great performance. We ended up coming out first place." She also stated they have to finish working on and improving their performance. The JV also performed at the competition, coming in fourth place. Madelyn states, "We are super proud of them as well." While both include the same members, the Winter Guard is the indoor season; the Color Guard is the outdoor season. The Winter Guard consists of two teams, Junior Varsity and Varsity. JV is composed of freshmen while Varsity is all upperclassmen. When asked about the outfit differences for JV and Varsity, Madelyn replied, "Our JV is doing 'Reflections' and they have beautiful green, flowy costumes, while the Varsity teams' show is called "The Summit" and we're kind of tying in the little bit of maroon." The Winter Guard team is excited for the rest of their season and the new leadership. When asked what she looks forward to this upcoming season, head coach Mia Smith stated, "I look forward to state to my girl players stepping it up and do wen, and I'm looking forward to some of the newer do well too." Madelyn stated, "We'd like for everybody to come out and support both teams!" Tennis team plans to serve this season to be calm and collected, and you have to take it seriously." Other team members disclosed their personal goals for the season. For example, senior ior Grayce Reynolds plan to improve my mental state while playing. I'm way too hard on myself while I'm playing. I hope to get better at not my head so much." all members have intrinsic goals to better themselves as as players, they also feel the need to While the new members have many years ahead of them to grow, for some players, like Reynolds or Braud, this will be their last season playing for the team. Reynolds stated, "Tennis has been something that I've done since the fifth grade, and since I don't plan on furthering it in college, saying goodbye to it is very the need to many veri experienced schools, team wa was matched with skilled and private giving the team a scattered winning streak. However, the new seaso season brings teams that the young team can easily match with. "One of the challenges is that we are a young team, especially on the boy's side, so that should at least give these kids more confidence to get better and develop their game of tennis.' Although it takes a village to keep the team running, according to junior and Boy's Top Single Jacob Angel, tennis depends highly on one's abilities, which can generate pressure on the player. "I would say that the pressure and intensity is very high whenever you play a match, and it's very difficult to continue being focused. You have captains as it is a way for the teams to learn how to be more independent. "JV is all new girls, so obviously nobody has had the upper hand against anybody. They're kind of learning their way of doing things as well as getting more inclusive individual time with the coaches," Madelyn told us, "but in Varsity, we have all decided just to all kind of step up and be leaders ourselves." This is an interesting concept for the team as they all get to put their input into how the shows are performed and add in their own styles. The Winter Guard girls' main coach is Miss Stephanie Montoya. She is helping the girls with their performances and getting them prepared for competitions. The Winter Guard also has an LSU tech, Miss Aliyah, helping their team She was the former head captain of the LSU Color Guard last year. While In of communication. February 2024 Incoming Freshman Night Incoming Freshman Night is an annual event hosted by St. Amant High School to introduce incoming freshmen to many clubs and groups on the St. Amant campus. This year it was held on February 6 in the commons. At St. Amant, it is always important to ensure incoming freshmen feel as comfortable as possible. With such a wide variety of clubs, it can be difficult for newcomers to find a way to be involved and be surrounded by people with similar interests. However, with Incoming Freshman Night they can be informed about some of the clubs they can join before they even officially become a gator. This way, the transition between middle and high school becomes less overwhelming and more exciting! A record of 27 wins against 12 losses illuminated the team's prowess on the field. Sharing the district championship as co-first with commendable competitors was a testament to their mettle. But are these times over? Has Disney entered a so-called "Flop Era?". I think we can all ree that it's not agree that going very well for them. To the audience, it seems as if Disney ran out of ideas, lost all imagination and used their new remakes to make up for it. For example, Wish is a Disney original that was released in late November of 2024. Wish has been considered a controversial movie after fans have spoken out saying it was "rushed" and that it "lacked magic". I, along with many others, believe that Disney should cast a group of actors who five with dwarfism. It feels like by doing this Disney is taking away jobs and a chance at representation from people living with dwarfism. Spring 2025 Although Disney has been having issues with their more recent releases, I think that they could solve this problem.
