STA's Theater and Choir Department's Production of Legally Blonde: The Musical Jr. is approaching! The show will run through February 1-3 and will be in the commons. Tickets are 15 dollars for adults and 10 dollars for students. The Gata Data The musical based on the 2001 film follows Elle Woods, a UCLA student as she follows Warner, her vain ex-lover, to Harvard Law School, simultaneously undergoing a journey of self-discovery in the process. According to director Heidi Frederic, the narrative and Elle's journey is why they chose it for the 2024 school musical. "We have a girl who thinks her life will be a a fairytale happy but within the first ten minutes of the ending, show, her life is completely destroyed," said Frederic. "Of course, she feels like she needs to have a man or someone telling her the direction of her life, and she does not realize that she does need that. That she is so much more than someone's partner or choreography again." or someone's wife or someone's girlfriend." When asked about Elle Woods, senior (and the performer portraying Elle) Grayce Reynolds stated, "She advocates for how all women feel. Being seen as a woman in society, but still overcoming those problems of how people view her. They see her as a dumb blonde, but she proves that she is not and I feel like a lot of women relate to that." Although Legally Blonde and Elle's not On February 27 2024 in the St. Amant Commons, the public is invited to help celebrate Black History Month with the Black History Club's free annual program. This year the program will be focused around the national theme of African Americans and the Arts. The audience can expect a of on-s of on-stage varie Verformances, such as dances, spoken word, Jazz Band, and many others. There will also be a variety of activities, such as listening stations, a gallery of art created by students, and food trucks. Throughout the month the Black History Club will host multiple events to promote Black History journey does highlight the struggles of a woman, music director and choreographer Sara Bray says that the message could apply to audience members in all walks of life. "It is still so relevant because it is telling a story that we as humans want to embrace. We want that journey. We want that growth and inspiration. Elle Woods is an inspiration." The cast and crew have been in rehearsals since October, and have been working diligently and tirelessly to piece together the musical behemoth. Nevertheless, Junior Alfred Stowe, who plays Emmett Forrest à disclosed, "It's been uper fun. It's been amazing. Getting to hang out with the other actors, it's an amazing experience that anybody should try out for. Freshman Kian Delhomer notes that she enjoys learning the immense choreography. "I've danced for a long time and it's nice to learn Both Bray and Frederic stated that their favorite part of the rehearsal process was seeing the pieces fit together. "It's nice to see the show slowly come together...our show gets better and better and everything gets tighter and tighter. I love seeing the evolution of a show that was on a piece of paper become something that 's real life, in front of you, and art," admitted Frederic. Bray's favorite part, however, is seeing the growth in the students throughout rehearsals and the inspiration it gives her. "I have watched these kids grow over the past t couple of months in every rehearsal. That t is always goi going to be inspiring to any director, Bray disclosed, "In my capacity, just watching these voices grow in confidence, and hearing them now sing onstage makes me emotional. To kick off Black History Month_guest speaker, John Gray spoke to students on February 1. The next event will be the annual Pie in the Face Challenge. Voting will begin on February 19 and end on February 23 in the commons. On top of all of these events, the Black History Club will host meetings every Thursday during A and B lunch in room 1330. Being in theater for four years, and performing one last time is definitely not that great of a feeling, but I feel fulfilled by my theater career at St. Amant. I'm glad I get to go out with such an iconic role as Elle Woods." With a formidable batting average of .356, he's proven his prowess at the plate. On the pitcher's mound, Wyatt showcases his power with a top-speed pitch of 90 of 90 mph, consistently delivering at an at an average speed of 86 mph. Standing tall at 6'2" and in at 180 pounds, he his commands attention with h imposing presence. A versatile player, Wyatt's skills extend beyond pitching, as he adeptly patrols the outfield. These competition teams have come a long way and are nearing the end of their journey with Nationals only a few days away. The Gatoretts leave for their Nationals this Thursday, February 1, while the Cheer team leaves the following Thursday, February 8. This past Saturday the two teams came together alongside Lake Elementary and Hahnville High, to perform their routines one last time before Nationals. All of the teams showed out without close to perfect routines. Founded by Mrs. Green, along with primary-member students Maras Bordes and Chloe Grimball, its purpose is to act as a safe space and community for women on campus. "Our goal is to help women feel comfortable in their own bodies and allow them to discuss matters they feel are important to them," says Grimball. It promotes body positivity, empowerment, and education on how to live as a woman, independently and safely. Bordes and Grimball would like to extend the club's outreach and encourage other gators to join. "Lady GatorTalk is such a collaborative and engaging environment. The kindness of our members and Mrs. Green allows for people to come together and be afraid of judgment. I hope that people will consider coming to at least one meeting and discovering what the club is truly about, and think that they will find a community welcoming them with open arms," says Grimball.
