AMANT, LA 70774 SEPTEMBER 2023 Gators offense, defense prove victorious in nail biter BY: XYAN DOBARD Gata Data Reporter Gator football prevailed in a down-to-the-wire battle against the Opelousas Tigers this past Friday. The 28-22 victory was led by the Gator's impressive defense. The Gators were put at an early disadvantage, taking a six yard sack for a safety less than a minute into the game. The Gators struggled throughout the first to put points on the board, but still limited Opelousas to just 8 points. The Gators began to pick things up in the second quarter, with a blocked punt by Braxtyn Spight. "That set the tone, that set the energy, it got everybody going," stated defensive end Jaiyh Joseph. This set the Gators up for a six-play drive, The Gata Data BY: MADELYN LONG Gata Data Reporter On September 23, High School bands across South Louisiana came together and performed at St. Amant High's 7th Annual Bandboree. These bands performed portions of their marching shows as a way to get feedback before the upcoming competition season. Assistant Band Director Andrew Graham explains that when coming up with the idea for the first Bandboree in 2015, the St. Amant Band Directors, "were inspired by local sports scrimmages and which Myles Dennis capped off with an eight-yard touchdown. Along with a two point conversion from Kyron Craft, the Gators tied the game up at 8-8 heading into the half. To kick off the third quarter, the Gator put together another six play drive netting for 80 yards with 7:31 remaining. Luke Raffery was on the receiving end of a pass from Chase Kelley for a 19 yard touchdown to put the Gators up 15-14. The Tigers continued to rely on their run game as they scored a one yard touchdown to take the lead back at the end of the third quarter. The Gators started off the 4th scoring a 13 yard rushing touchdown by Tyree Williams to tie up the game at 22-22 with 11:53 to go. The Gators defense fought to come up with a stop which set the offense up once again to score. Once the Gators returned possession, Chase Kelley completed a 22 yard pass to Jermichael Millien. A few plays later, Kyron Craft turned an inside run into a 27 yard touchdown to give the Gators the lead at 28-22. The Gators defense once again came up with big stops with a series of tackles for losses as well as forcing incomplete passes. Their tremendous effort from the defense got them a stop to seal the game. Bruslv High School performed their show "ELVIS!" next. Following came East Ascension High School's "Band EAterna". Denham Springs High School's "Destacando". Central High School's "Icarus". Walker High School's "Pictures at Bald Mountain". Dutchtown High School's "Wednesday, the Thirteenth". and lastly St. Amant High School's "Into Thin Air". In between these performances. announcers Sara Bray and Mark Lambert kent the crowd entertained with iokes. interviews, and shoutouts. St. Amant made a comeback last year with Bandboree, after COVID did not allow for the event to be held for 2 years. Graham also explains that Bandboree has been growing since it started by adding, To close out the night, all of the wind members performed Amazing Grace, which was conducted by Sheilv Bell. After this, Junior Caroline Cash explains that the drumlines, "get to play the party cadence with all of the other drumline members. They go out in the middle of the field with well over 50 people on drumline and play a cadence. All of the other band members jump and dance around us." we invite local bands in Ascension, Livingston, and now starting to spread out into East Baton Rouge Parish." NEED VOLUNTEER HOURS? The St. Amant High School Band, "hired judges to give specific feedback for music, visual, percussion, and colorguard that can give feedback just as if it was a competition." While the band directors receive this feedback, Graham adds that, "the students have a DJ dance party on the football field where they mingle with students from other schools and we get the birds-eye view from the pressbox and watch them be teenagers and enjoy themselves."All in all, Bandboree gives local bands the opportunity to have a AT THE RN ON Oct 14th Volunteer opportunities from 7am-8pm "night of fun for the bands without having to worry about a placement. Page Number 2 STA's 2023-24 Homecoming Court Jesslyn Allen decided to run for Homecoming court because of the previous winners, whom Allen looks up to. She says that she is most excited to dress up and walk on the field during the Pep Rally, "It's going to be unbelievable." As a member of Talented Band, she likes to show her Gator pride at games. Allen says, "Whenever I play my drum, I can get really loud and have lots of spirit. Gracie Fontenot says she loves STA because she met her best friends here. Gracie shows her school spirit by cheering on the Gators on Friday nights at football games. Fontenot is most excited to ride in the Homecoming parade. She also looks forwards to watching her friends and family cheer her on. Jordan Lobell decided to run for Homecoming court for the experience. She savs. "All the activities vou get to do like wearing cute suits and riding in the parade in a nice car. I also wanted to show my love for St. Amant." Lobell shows her STA pride bv cheering on the sidelines of football games, and broadcasting news as a member of GNN. She is most excited to play the games at the Pen Rally and ride into The Pit while her friends and family cheer her on. Gracie Bercegeay is running because she dreamed of being part of this memorable experience since she was little. She savs. "I am excited for the memories that I will make with the girls on the court." Gracie shows her Gator pride by participating in clubs. dress-un davs and sports events. She loves the staff members at STA. "The staff is very helpful with students and do their very best to help us succeed." What Karsyn Guidry loves most about STA is the friendships and opportunities the school has provided her. She shows her gator pride by cheering on the sídelines of football or basketball games as a St. Amant High School Cheerleader. In addition, she always participates in spirit week by dressing up. Guidry is most excited for the Homecoming parade and Pep Rally. SAAD Paisley Whiddon has aspired to be on Homecoming court since she was young, looking up to the court girls in the past. Along with being a Gatorette, she likes to attend football games and other school events. Whiddon is most excited to be in the parade and attend the Homecoming game. "It's a really cool experience. I'm very lucky to get to do this," she says. She adds that throughout the week, the nominees have formed a unique bond with one another. Lexi Brignac decided to run for homecoming court because she's always wanted to be a maid since she was a little girl. She says, "I love the teachers on this campus and how supportive everybody is." Brignac shows her gator pride as a part of the volleyball team and the Pit Crew, and attends as many sports events as possible. She is most excited to be able to ride in her dad's car, which she grew up watching him build. Grayce Reynolds decided to run because she only gets one senior year, but she says it was never a main goal for her. "I just ran subconsciously without thinking twice about it." Reynolds feels like STA is a very diverse school, so she was able to meet a lot of different people. Reynolds shows her gator pride by supporting and participating in several clubs. Asia Beverly Jackson has participated in student aid, bowling, track, and band. She decided to run for Homecoming court because she thought it would be a fun experience. She says, "For dress down I donate my two dollars, I do spirit week, and I go to everything I try to". Jackson adds, "I love doing all the school activities and I like being involved in everything.' Ronia Guillory is a part of St. Amant High School's Basketball team. She shows her school spirit by partaking in the themes on dress-up days. Guillory also loves to support STA's many sports teams. She is most excited to go to the Pep Rally, and watch her friends and family cheer her on. She says, "I think it will be a fun experience." Alexis Jones decided to run because of her love for school spirit and Homecoming festivities. She is most excited for the Homecoming Parade, "I have dreamed of being in the parade for as long as I can remember." Alexis shows STA Pride by cheering on STA at games as a member of the Gatorettes and lifetime opportunity, and an experience that she will forever cherish. She loves her student body and the community built around it, saying, "It gave me lifelong friends." Kaitlyn is a member of in GNN, Gator rally, Gator to Gator, Student council, FCA, Allied Health and STA Cheer. She adds, "I am most excited to experience this week with my best friends." participating in school spirited events, adding,"I love the environment at St. Amant." September 2023 DOAROO Kaitlyn Ross describes running for Homecoming court as a once in a Sami Sheets decided to run for Homecoming Court because she saw it as a great opportunity to represent her school. She says, "I am very excited and thankful to be experiencing this with such great girls." Sheets is a member of the Gatorettes, and attends many school events to show her Gator pride. She is most excited about the Homecoming Parade, Pep Rally and game. Janiya Knockum believes being on Homecoming Court can help boost school spirit. Knockum savs. "It can inspire classmates to show their support and pride for their school". Knockum advises underclassmen to get involved with the school."Have fun throughout vour high-school vears because they go so fast, so do what you eniov doing. Have fun and smile!" Sarah Faulkner is a four year member of the Lady Gator Soccer, and Track and Field Team. Faulkner is also a member of GNN, BETA, Gator to Gator, Rho Kappa and Lady Gator Talk. Faulkner loves the St. Amant community, "The friends that I've made here will last a lifetime and the teachers always support me," she adds. Faulkner plans to attend Louisiana State University and major in chemical engineering. Katie Williamson has moved schools about times, and says that she embraces the community at STA. She says, "I moved here two years ago from Virginia and people were I really accepting." Katie is a part of marching band, wind symphony, jazz band, honor bands, choir, she is also a varsity pole vaulter. Many people know Katie for her self expression as well as her enthusiastic and welcoming personality. Brylee Lambert decided to run for Homecoming court because she recently tore her ACL, which meant that she could no longer do volleyball and cheer, so she wanted to be a part of something. She says, "I love the people here, love the teachers, and love how supportive the community is." Lambert shows her Gator pride as a cheerleader at most events. She says, "I'm most excited for walking across the field and being able to do all of this with my best friends." Mary-Beth Zeller is proud to be involved in her high school's traditions, activities, and events. Zeller is involved with STA's Pitcrew and Gator Rally. "These clubs enable me to lead the student section and the student body in promoting our STA pride." She is excited to participate in the Homecoming festivities. like the Pep Rally. Homecoming Parade and Football Game.

NAR September 2023 Spirit week at STA Starting Monday, September 25, and ending with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 30, St. Amant High School celebrates Homecoming week with loads of Candyland-themed activities and dress-up days. Monday kicked off Spirit week with "3 Musketeers" or Squaad day where students got to dress up as their favorite iconic groups, with outfits like Mario Brothers and Winnie the Pooh. Tuesday was "Starburst" or Celebrity Day, where people wore costumes of celebrities with appearances of Taylor Swift and Steve Harvey. Wednesday was "Sweet Tarts" or Opposites Day and students came dressed as Angels and Devils, and even St. Amant vs. EA. Thursday is "Candyland Day" where students can dress as either candy or royalty. Thursday is also the day of the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally, which will be at the Pit. Friday, the day before the dance, is always Color Wars day or, to be on theme, "Skittles", where freshmen wear Yellow, sophomores where green, juniors wear Yellow and seniors, Purple. The Homecoming Football Game is also on Friday which will be at 7 at the Pit.
