Beginner Knitting: Learn to knit and create your own project to take home! In this hands-on class, you will learn the basics of beginner knitting, and create a knitted "coffee cozy" or "mug rug" to take home. Along the way we will explore a variety of things, including different types of yarn, needles, and other tools that can be used to make simple yet beautiful knits! All necessary supplies for your first project are included. (STUDENTS) Learn the basics of bird watching; identify birds of northeastern Minnesota; participate in and contribute to a global citizen science project! Join Ms. Christine Olson for a two-session class. Participants will learn basic bird watching and identification skills and will participate in The GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT, which is sponsored by The National Audubon Society and Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It takes place February 17 - 20, 2023. Ages: 8-14 Location: High School Media Center Cost: $7 Class Dates/Times: February 15th 2:10-3:10pm: Learn how to identify birds and collect data Presidents Day weekend: Count birds (from your own yard!) February 22nd 5-6pm: Discuss sightings and submit data WATERSCAPE PAINTING Waterscape Painting: Draw and paint with instructor to create your own masterpiece using acrylic paint and an 11 x 14 stretched canvas. ALL AGES! PUZZLE EXCHANGE Do you have a puzzle you've completed and would like to trade it for another? Community Ed is hosting a Puzzle Swap! Drop off your puzzle(s) the week of January 30-February 3, 2023. Return to pick out your trade(s) on Febrary 6th from 3:30-5:00 pm. Drop off: Community Ed office (located in the High School) January 30 to February 3, from 8am-3pm Exchange: High School Media Center February 6, 3:30-5pm Puzzles must be in very good condition, with no missing pieces. You will receive a ticket for each puzzle brought in; tickets will then be exchanged for puzzles (one puzzle per ticket) on the Exhange Day. Puzzle tickets will match a category: Level 1: children's Level 2: 200-750 pieces Level 3: 750+ pieces Please match the majority of your exhanges within the same category as the puzzles you contributed. All puzzles exchanged "as is". Leftover puzzles will donated to the Veteran's Thrift Store in Hibbing. LAKE REFLECTION PAINTING Lake Reflection Painting: Try your hand at acrylic painting. Instructor will draw and paint a lake reflection painting with participants, using an 11x14 stretched canvas and acrylic paint. No experience necessary; all skill levels welcome. Must have 4 registrations to conduct this class. Maximum number of participants: 15 PICKLEBALL Pickleball is a mix between tennis, racquetball and ping pong. Players use special paddles and a wiffle ball. Games take place on a court with specific pickleball lines. Time: 4:30-7:30 PM Location: Vaughan-Steffensrud Elementary Days: Tuesdays and Thursdays Dates: Sept. 13th through May 4th. No Pickleball when school is not in session. Cost: is $1.00 per evening. Choose to pay per night, or purchase a $10.00 punch card. Punch cards will be available for pick up when you attend your first session. Pay online or pay at the door.
