WATTSHAPPENING SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE WITH DR. CALVIN J. WATTS DECEMBER 2020 Dear KSD Community, It has been a tremendous start to the 2020-2021 school year, one that many of us could have never predicted. While we have weathered many changes and disappointments in 2020, we have also witnessed many acts of kindness, generosity, and perseverance. As this calendar year comes to an end, I want to thank our KSD families and community for supporting our students, our staff, and our schools. Together we are team KSD, and together we can achieve our mission of successfully preparing all students for their futures. Winter break is just around the corner. It is my hope that all students, family and staff take this opportunity to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Our richly diverse KSD community is so generous and supportive of our students and schools, especially during this time of year. Jo If your family is in need this season, please call your school or visit our website to view the holiday resource list with information about food, gifts and services for children and families seeking assistance this season. During this holiday season our value of equity requires us to be mindful that not everyone celebrates the same ways in which we do, nor does everyone have the same access to means of celebrating, however we can all choose to give the gift of kindness - remember every act of kindness, big or small, can change the world. We continue to monitor COVID activity data published by Public Health - Seattle & King County. You can view the latest data on our website which is updated regularly. Due to the current levels of COVID-19 activity in our community, the traditional feast, end-of-year parties, and crowded tables are on hold. There are still fulfilling ways to enjoy the holidays with family and friends. We have shared some information, tips, and resources from the Department of Health for celebrating winter holidays during COVID-19 on our website. Finally, on behalf of my family and each member of Kent School District, I extend to you a safe and happy winter break. 1-31 Guest Teacher DEC Appreciation Month In partnership and service, 7-11 Inclusive Schools Week DEC Dr. Calvin J.
